Description

If you want to keep broccoli fresh for a long time, you have to keep a close eye on temperature and humidity. Three ways to store broccoli

  • the broccoli bouquet: put the broccoli, stem side down, in a small bowl of water. Be careful not to get the broccoli florets wet. Put a plastic bag with holes over the broccoli and put everything in the refrigerator. Your fresh broccoli will stay fresh for 5 to 7 days. Don’t forget to change the water every day.
  • Wrap kitchen paper around the broccoli florets: Moisten the broccoli florets with a spray bottle and pack the stalk loosely in kitchen paper. Put the whole thing in the fridge. Wetting the florets under the running tap is not a good idea. Excess water can cause mold to develop. The combination of a nebulizer and an absorbent piece of kitchen roll ensures an optimal moisture balance. Do not wrap the broccoli too tightly in the kitchen paper, as the broccoli florets must be able to breathe to stay fresh.
  • Wrap foil around the broccoli: Make holes in a plastic bag or foil at the height of the florets and put the broccoli in it. Also, don’t wrap too tightly, as air circulation is needed to keep broccoli fresh. Put the whole thing in the bottom of the fridge or in the vegetable drawer.
